Sunday June 3rd – and the High Street in Keynsham will be the place to be to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Following the 11am community service at St John’s Parish Church in which the Queen’s 60 years will be celebrated and prayers offered for her and the town, the High Street will be taken over to hold a Street Party for Keynsham residents. There will be tables and chairs to seat 400 people with music, entertainment and competitions for all ages. In addition, as access to the pavements will be retained, many businesses and organisations may be open to offer food, refreshment and other products to tempt your fancy.
Access to seating will be available from 12.30 on a first come, first served basis with stewards on hand to assist you wherever possible. Accommodation is limited (for licensing reasons) but it is anticipated that groups will arrive and leave at varying times through the afternoon, freeing up space. Alternatively, if you don’t feel like bringing your own picnic you can partake of food and refreshment from high street venues, and just soak up the general atmosphere!
The event is by Keynsham residents for Keynsham residents so the organisers are looking for local talent to ‘busk’ around the tables at selected times in between the broadcast of musical highlights from the decades. This will not be a ‘big stage’ offering but a matter of playing or performing to a ‘few friends around a table’. So if you can play guitar, accordion, violin or any other suitable instrument, sing ‘Barber-shop’ style or perhaps juggle/do amazing things with balloons – they would like to hear from you.
There is also a need, as always, for volunteers to ensure the event is a success. Even if you could only assist for 30 minutes or so (e.g. to move tables), you could help to make the difference. If you are able to help, please contact as above.
This celebration, supported by Keynsham Town Council, Keynsham Business Association, Churches Together and other interested organisations from the locality, aims to further cement a sense of community and pride in Keynsham as a whole, so - Come on Down!
