Keynsham Winter Festival (formerly known as Keynsham Victorian Evening)
is on Friday 28th November 2014

This year's theme is Winter Wonderland and local shops and business will be asked to decorate their windows on this theme for the window competition.  There will be a winter wonderland themed children's colouring competition and the opportunity to make giant snowflakes/icicles at pre-event craft workshops - details of these will be advertised through all local primary/infant schools and on the Town Council notice boards, after the summer holidays.  This year, we will be holding a glitter and sparkle fancy dress competition for age groups under 10's and age 11 - 16 year olds, again details will be available after the Summer holidays.

2013 Victorian Evening

Young local children carrying sparkling, brightly coloured giant willow bells, made at an earlier workshop, formed part of this year's procession.  Heading up the procession was the Town Crier followed by 2386 Keynsham Squadron Air Cadet Marching Band that played out a super beat which helped the parade along the High Street.  The people of Keynsham were also entertained by the beautiful sight of stilt walker characters (Snow Queens, Christmas Trees and Victorian Policemen, to name a few) from the Upshot Circus Arts Troop.  This year's Christmas Tree colouring competition winner, Eleanor Burston accompanied Santa in his sleigh.

Proceedings on the stage began with an introduction by the Town Crier and speeches by Councillor Clive Fricker, Acting Chair of Keynsham Town Council and Councillor Neil Butters, Chair of Bath & North East Somerset Council.  Next followed the announcement of this year's winners of the best window displays (on a Christmas Bell theme) - business and charity shop category results can be seen below.  Then prizes and certificates were presented to the winners and runners up of the Town Council's Children's Christmas bell colouring competition (results and photos below)  Following the count down by the crowds, the colouring competition winner switched on the Christmas lights and the town's Christmas lights for 2013 came to life.  St. John's church bells rang out for ten minutes to celebrate the switch on.

The evening's entertainment continued with performances on stage by St. John's Junior Youth/Teen Choir, Keynsham Light Opera Group, Keynsham Brass Band, Totally Maracas, Riverside Singers (B&NES Staff Choir) and the 2386 Air Cadet Band.  The Town Council would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all performing groups for a great evening of entertainment.  Thanks also, go to our compere for the evening, Jimmy Mack who also entertained youngsters with his balloon sculpting skills.

Of course, such an event of this magnitude would not happen without the support of numerous sponsors including Bath & North East Somerset Council, Tesco, Keynsham & Saltford Churches Together, WPC Software, the Co-operative food store, the Entertainer and Ian Mc Gill Transport and the Town Council express their thanks to all.
