Keynsham Victorian Evening
25th November 2011
Once again, the crowds turned out to support this ever popular community event of Keynsham's Victorian Evening and Christmas light switch on.
Young local children carrying illumiated giant willow candles, made at an earlier candle making workshop, formed part of the procession, lead by the Town Crier paraded along the High Street. This year's candle colouring competition winner, 9 year old Ellie Jupp, accompanied by Santa, joined the procession on a magical sleigh ride pulled by real reindeer. This proved to be a very popular attraction with many of the crowd visiting the reindeer in their resting place for the evening in the grounds of St. John's Church.

Proceedings on the stage began with speeches by Councillor Gill Hellier, Chairman of Keynsham Town Council and Councillor Peter Edwards, Chairman of Bath & North East Somerset Council. Next followed the announcement of this year's winners of the best window displays (business and charity categories - (results and photo can be seen below). Then prizes and certificates were presented to the winners and runners up of the Town Council's children's candle colouring competition. The winning coloured candles from each age category were made into Christmas cards and these are now on sale in the Town Council. Following a count down by the crowd the colouring competition winner switched on the Christmas lights.

The evening's entertainment continued with performances on stage by St. John's junior and youth choir, Wellsway School Performers, Keynsham Brass Band, Totally Maracas and Keynsham Light Opera Group. The Town Council would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all performing groups for a great evening of entertainment. Thanks also go to our compere for the evening, Jimmy Mack, who also enrtertained youngsters with his balloon sculpting skills.
Several special attractions were put on this year and these included Victorian Music and Victorian Games Workshops and Churches Together nativity photography activity 'Get in the Picture'.

Of course, such an event of this magnitude would not happen without the support of numerous sponsors including Bath & North East Somerset Council, Tesco, Keynsham & Saltford Chruches Together and Ian Mc Gill Transport and the Town Council express their thanks to all.
